The national forecaster is warning of further heavy rain across some areas of the country today, in the wake of Storm Elsa.
Strong winds and torrential rain overnight caused significant damage around parts of Galway, with many cars becoming stranded in flood waters.
The outlook for today is for showery weather with some bright spells and temperatures of up to 11C, dropping to just above freezing at night.
Much more benign weather is expected this weekend, with mostly dry and settled conditions, and temperatures of around 8-9C.
