Met Eireann warns that northern and southern areas will see the worst of the weather this coming weekend, with hard frost, sleet showers, and even snow at times

Met Eireann is warning that northern and southern areas will see the worst of the weather this coming weekend, with hard frost, sleet showers, and even snow at times.

The culprit is a mass of Arctic air currently moving towards Ireland.

Friday night will be very cold, with temperatures dropping to -3C at times, and hard frost expected to form by Saturday morning.

Saturday will start out bright but very cold, with cloud cover increasing by the afternoon, leading to the formation of rain and sleet showers. There’s also a risk of localized thunderstorms and snow showers, particularly on high ground, with temperatures remaining in single digits.

Sunday is also expected to start out bright but cold, but there will be some rain later in the day, particularly around Ulster and Connacht.

The outlook is for milder weather early next week, but changeable conditions will remain.
