The so-called heatwave came and went in the blink of an eye, leaving behind warm and sunny memories of ice cream vans and packed beaches.

However, the reality of Irish weather has washed away such memories in a single stroke.

Met Eireann has issued a heavy rain warning, indicating that up to 40mm of rainfall may blight the country today. The warning will remain in place until midnight tonight.

Further rain is predicted tomorrow, though not as heavy as today’s. Wednesday will bring some sunny spells and a rise in temperatures, up to 16-19C. This pattern will continue on Thursday, and Friday will bring more rain unto us.

The weekend is looking uncertain, but temperatures may rise up to 20C.
