A proposed Metro link between Dublin Airport and the capital’s city centre has emerged as the main attraction of the Coalition’s plan for infrastructure expenditure announced earlier today.

If it goes ahead as planned, the rail system will link the city centre with Dublin Airport and Swords.

The Taoiseach and Joan Burton unveiled the proposed six-year plan today, with an overall price tag of €27bn. The 16.5km airport link would cost an estimated €2.4bn.

As it stands today, the metro would run underground to Glasnevin, over ground to the airport, and underground to Swords. Completion of the project is expected by 2026/27.
