Breifne Earley cycled 30,000km around the world to win the prestigious World Cycle Race.

His own bike and another bike was stolen from Carrick on Shannon between 8 – 8.20pm on Sunday evening.

Mr Earley and a friend had been in Tuam, Co Galway cycling for Irish charity Pieta House which is dedicated to the prevention of Suicide.

Speaking on radio to Morning Ireland he stated that the bikes had been “opportunistically taken off” the back of his car while he was at a Chinese next to his home.

Two men have been identified as the culprits, with one of the men being described as 6ft 1 inches with a blue hoodie and dark red hair, while his accomplice was 5ft 7inches with dark hair and glasses.

CCTV footage also revealed that their getaway car was a red van, and the registration number has been given to the gardaí.

Earley’s bike is a €3,500- 4,000 Specialised Crux Carbon Pro, white with black and red decals. It has an instantly recognisable worn leather seat and the front derailleur is damaged.

His friend’s bike is worth €1,000, a Cube Pedalathon, black with white writing on the frame of the bike.

The individuals expressed that the bikes had sentimental value to them.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the gardaí on 071 9620021 or Breifne Earley himself at [email protected].
