Mexican police chief shot dead hours after taking office in border state

A Mexican police chief was shot dead by cartel hitmen just hours after he took office in the in the border state of Nuevo Leon.

Police Chief Roberto Julián Saenz Garza was riddled with bullets as he walked outside of his home on Thursday night in the municipality of Cadereyta, just west of the Monterrey metropolitan area.

The border states of Mexico are racked with violence as rival cartels battle for control of the lucrative drug and human trafficking routes to the United States.

With the U.S expericing an unprecendented crisis on its southern border due to Joe Biden’s rolling back of President Trump’s stringent border controls, cartel people smugglers are making huge profits and this has caused a spike in violence and bloodshed.
