Michael Martin bows to Leo Varadkar again by renewing confidence and supply agreement until 2020

The current Fine Gael led minority Government will remain in place until 2020 at least after the Fianna Fáil leader Mícheál Martin confirmed that his party have agreed to renew the current confidence and supply agreement.

In an announcement made in the Dáil, Mr Martin said the decision to renew the deal was in the interest of the nation rather than the party.

The Fianna Fáil leader said that now wasn’t the right time to have a general election given the circumstances surrounding Brexit.

Mr Martin told the Dáil that the current uncertainty and chaos in the British Parliament should not occur within the Dail and both his party and the Government should pull together to sort out Ireland’s interests when it comes to the UK leaving the EU.
