Micheal Martin insists on defending country’s housing problem

Micheal Martin has insisted that Ireland is making progress in addressing the housing problem and is expected to surpass home delivery commitments by 2024, reports the Irish Independent.

Mr. Martin asserted that because of the dedication of governments, the corporate sector, and nonprofit and volunteer housing groups, the Housing for All plan was starting to bear fruit.

Speaking in Cork during the opening of a Clúid housing project consisting of 112 units at Green Lane in Blackpool, the Tánaiste described the development as “a manifestation of the success of the Housing for All strategy”.

“Yesterday we had good news with close to 33,000 homes delivered in 2023 which is evidence of continuing momentum in terms of getting more supply into the market,” he said, reports the Irish Independent.

The Tánaiste admitted that Ireland urgently needs more housing.

“We need to do more but next year the pipeline is such that we think we can go higher than this year and higher than the targets which have been set. We just have to keep the focus on (delivering housing),” he said, reports the Irish Independent.
