Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin will be nominated as Taoiseach today in the Dail.
It’s understood that even Martin himself expects to not reach enough votes to secure the position and it’ll be seen more as jostling for position in the weeks ahead.
Also to be nominated will be Sinn Fein’s Mary Lou McDonald and the Green party’s Eamon Ryan, again both of whom will almost certainly not get enough votes to succeed.
It’s not yet clear what the outcome of the election will be, whether they’ll be another election or whether some sort of coalition or grand coalition can actually be formed.
