Micheal Martin sets sights on becoming new Taoiseach propped up by Fine Gael and the Greens

Sinn Fein may have done very well in the elections but it could well be a case that they’re still not getting into government.

The fact that they didn’t run enough candidates to make up a government or majority government have left the door open for both Fianna Fail and Fine Gael to get back in power in the Dail.

It’s understood that talks between Fianna Fail and Fine Gael will commence this week in an effort to form a government.

Both Fianna Fail and Fine Gael had stated numerous times that under no circumstances whatsoever would they go into government with Sinn Fein and post election, Fianna Fail and emphasised that it’s still the case.

Micheal Martin firmly closed the door of Mary Lou McDonald – regardless of Sinn Fein doing very well in the election.

He said that McDonald had been speaking to him on the phone for some 15 minutes, which saw Martin congratulate her, but said that under no circumstances whatsoever would his party be entering into a coalition government with Sinn Fein.

It was a major blow for McDonald who, if Fine Gael slam the door shut too, will be left out in the cold and unable to form a government or become Taoiseach.

Speculators believe that Micheal Martin is poised to become the next Taoiseach, propped up by Fine Gael and the Green Party and possibly some independents.

Fianna Fail are set to meet Fine Gael this week to discuss how they can form a government and stop Sinn Fein from getting into government.
