Mick’s the man: McCarthy hot favourite to once again be Ireland manager

He is the most talked about man in Irish football this week and it now looks like a certainty.

Bookies after placed Mick McCarthy as odds on favourite to replace Martin O’Neill with Robbie Keane mooted as potentially replacing his surname namesake Roy.

59-yr-old McCarthy is currently without a club after leaving The Tractor Boys, Ipswich Town earlier this year.

McCarthy first managed Ireland Ireland for 6 years from 1996 to 2002 and led us to the last 16 in the World Cup where (as far as I’m concerned) we could and should have beaten Spain.

His row with Roy Keane in Saipan overshadowed the brilliant performance we had, but that was then.

McCarthy is flying into Dublin tomorrow morning and will hammer out a deal with a FAI negotiating a new contract that will see him take over from Martin O’Neill.

What do you think of McCarthy if indeed he does become the new Ireland manager? Tell us in the Facebook post comments?
