Jozef Puska was charged with murdering Ashling Murphy in January 2022 with his trial date being set for the 6th of June this year.

The Slovakian migrant’s case was mentioned briefly on Wednesday before the Central Criminal Court, where legal aid was extended to his lawyers for a particular part of the case.

Meanwhile, a camogie contest will honuor the memory of Offaly School teacher Ashling Murphy.

The Camogie Association said that the previously unnamed Division 5 Cup will be called the “Ashling Murphy Cup”.

The 23-year-old played Camogie for her local club Kilcormac Killoughey and also represented Mary Immaculate College where she was educated.

“Ashling’s accomplishments, her generosity of spirit and her love of Irish culture touched so many, the naming of the CCAO cup in her honour is a fitting tribute,” said President of the Camogie Association Hilda Breslin, reports RTE.

Ashling Murphy was shot and killed in Tullamore, County Offaly on 12 January last year.

A man has been charged in connection with his death and the matter is in court.
