Upwards of 16,000 fatalities have been confirmed after a major earthquake hit Turkey and Syria on Monday morning.
The quake, measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale, struck in the early hours of the morning, local time, causing devastating and widespread structural damage. Many areas have experienced no fewer than 285 aftershocks since.
Rescue efforts are ongoing, and the death toll is expected to rise significantly.
