Migrant to go on trial in Dublin in learner permit fraud case

A lady was charged with conspiring to pass off driving theory test candidates as part of a learner permit fraud scheme and has been ordered forward for trial, reports RTE.

Prosecutors handed 42-yr-old Alina Glont with a book of evidence when she appeared before Dublin District Court Judge Gerard Jones while she is out on bond.

It is the result of an investigation by the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB) into driving permits that were obtained unlawfully, which started in March 2021.

Section 71 of the Criminal Justice Act of 2006 charges Ms. Glont, of Charlestown Place, Dublin 11, with two counts of conspiracy, reports RTE.

She is accused of plotting to commit a severe criminal with one or more others between September 14, 2019, and June 29, 2021.

First, taking driving theory exams on behalf of third parties in order to get driver theory test pass certificates constituted the illegal use of a computer within the State.

She was accused of deceiving others during the same period “by unlawfully undergoing driver theory tests in the names of third parties to induce the issue of driver theory test pass certificates” in order to obtain an advantage over someone else or cause that person to lose money, according to the second conspiracy allegation, reports RTE.

Judge Jones observed that the Director of Public Prosecutions had permitted the matter to be heard on “indictment” prior to granting a return-for-trial order.

Legal assistance was granted when he forwarded Ms. Glont to the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reports RTE.
