Migrants have been ordered to move out of Dublin’s Leeson Street

Leeson Street was home to about forty asylum seekers who were living in tents when they received an order to leave without being offered a place to stay elsewhere, reports RTE.

Most of the asylum seekers who were moved on were promised housing during earlier multi-agency operations last month to remove tents from the Mount Street area and the Grand Canal.

But in contrast to prior operations, this one was not directed by the government.

“With the support of An Garda Síochána carried out an operation today to remove tents from Leeson Street,” the Dublin City Council announced, reports RTE.

However, the spokesperson said that “Dublin City Council has no role in accommodating International Protection applicants” and that “Government Information Services or (the International Protection Accommodation Service) IPAS should be contacted on this matter”, reports RTE.
