It has been reported that Miners in Co Monaghan have discovered a significant amount of gold believed to be worth more than €150 million.
It is believed that miners unearthed the highly valuable mineral near the border in Rockcorry, Co Monaghan.
The discovery was made in the Republic and therefore is technically owned by the Irish State and will be extracted under licence. The exploration company Conroy Gold and Natural Resources has said the site is thought to be 700 metres by 300 metres in size.
It is thought that the company are currently drawing up proposals to develop a gold mine in Monaghan, around 14km away from the discovery site so the gold can be extracted safely. It is understood that company representatives will search the area in the coming weeks.
