Minister for Enterprise, Leo Varadkar Missing in Action on state media and social media as Are Lingus permanently closes it’s Shannon cabin crew base just months after he said “the airline would not be allowed to fail”

Leo Varadkar, the Minister for Enterprise has been noticeably missing from State media, private media and social media over the last 24 hours.

Questions are being asked why the media are not asking the hard questions of the Minister for Enterprise, especially in the aftermath of the devastating news that Are Lingus is permanently closing it’s Shannon cabin crew base.

In February, Leo Varadkar told the Dáil today that the State is already providing a lot of financial support through Ireland’s Strategic Investment Fund and through the temporary wage subsidy scheme.

Varadkar told the Dail “saving all jobs and saving all routes may not be possible but we do want to protect the company and ensure that it is there for essential connectivity in to the future.”

Earlier, he had told the Dáil that the airline would not be allowed to fail.
