Minister for Finance says Metrolink project could cost between €4bn or €5bn

The Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe has said the overall cost of the new Metrolink system in Dublin could be considerably more than estimated.

Speaking to RTÉ News, Mr Donohoe said the revised plans for the project could see its final estimate being closer to four or five billion euro.

The Finance Minister’s comments come after the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar indicated during discussions about the National Broadband Plan that the Metrolink project could cost more than the €3bn estimated.

Donohoe also said that he is aware that a lot of work is required to complete the project, but any decision on its future should be made after the tendering process.
