The Minister for Health Simon Harris has said that he will look into the possibility of easing visitor restrictions at nursing homes.
Speaking in the Dáil on Wednesday, Harris said he will examine the idea of allowing family members to visit residents at homes across the country.
Under the proposed ideas family members could be allowed to visit relatives in an outside setting which would allow for adequate social distancing.
Although Harris said there were no guarantees about the possibility of lifting visitor restrictions, he did say that he wants residents at nursing homes to know that the Government is thinking about them during this difficult time.
He added that he hopes further progress will be made in the coming weeks ahead.
