Four police officers in the US city of Minneapolis have been fired after footage emerged of them holding down a man while one knelt on his neck.

The man George Floyd (46) who can be heard pleading with officers in the video, telling them he cannot breathe, later died.

The FBI have announced they are investigating the death, but this did not stop hundreds of protesters gathering on the streets of the Minnesota city with chants of “I can’t breathe”.

There were later some minor disturbances of the peace with CNN receiving reports of property damage police attempted to disperse the crowds outside the Minneapolis Police 3rd Precinct after and a front glass window was smashed.

The tragic death of Mr Floyd has quickly been seized up by some groups for political ends as the man in question was black.
