Frances Fitzgerald, Minister for Justice made this announcement today in Templemore College as 94 Gardaí graduated.
The recruitment of these new gardaí is set to take place next year.
Nóirín O’ Sullivan stated that she was aware of the fear that violent crimes instils in Irish citizens and said that the recruitment was being put in place to help alleviate that fear.
She also stated that Gardaí are fully aware of the identities of those involved in these crimes and are making efforts to apprehend them.
Ms O’ Sullivan stated that former IRA members were among those committing crimes.
