The Minister for Public Expenditure, Paschal Donohoe, has announced that a ‘substantial package’ will be offered to Gardai, in an attempt to avoid their upcoming industrial action.
Mr. Donohoe said that “we have put in place what we believe to be a substantial arrangement and package to look to meet their needs.”
The minister, however, did not go into specifics as to what this package includes.
Talks about the ongoing dispute continued this weekend. Gardai are seeking a 16.5% pay rise.
According to sources, a ‘contingency plan’ is also being discussed, in case Gardai actually walk out of the job.
