Minister for Public Expenditure Paschal Donohue will ask ministers to ‘waive’ their pay rises after savage public backlash

Like acolytes from a parasitic empire, TDs and ministers will stand in line cap in hand on April 1 next, ready to hoard their extra thousands in their wage packets.

Because of the Landsdowne Agreement, politicians were on target to receive a substantial wage increase over the next three years. Meanwhile, with the other hand, Minister for Finance Michael Noonan reluctantly and very carefully hand counted just five coins to toss to pensioners and those on social welfare.

After a huge public outcry, it is understood that Minister for Public Expenditure Paschal Donohue will ask ministers to ‘waive’ these increases. However, TDs will still receive their due doubloons.

Mr. Donohoue, who earlier this year washed his hands off any responsibility to intervene in the Luas strike when he was Minister for Transport, said: “I absolutely understand that perception and I’m so keenly aware of the hurt and anxiety that’s been caused to so many people after all that we went through.”
