The minister in charge of the sinking ship that is Irish Water has today accused local authorities of Nimbyism on the issue of homelessness in Dublin and elsewhere.

According to him, Dublin City Council has identified more over 200 houses for purchase or leasing, to help ease the homelessness emergency in the city.

He added however that some of these proposals have been rejected by local authorities that are enacting a ‘Not In My Back Yard’ -‘Nimby’- policy.

The minister said “If I have to say – one area where I’d like better cooperation, it’s from local authority members,”

“I’ve put proposals (to) Dublin City Council, they’ve been rejected.
“I think local authority’s members need to step up to the mark.
“They’ve decisions to make when proposals are put forward – that there isn’t Nimbyism as regards homelessness.”
