The Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government has warned that the impending Storm Lorenzo will bring “ferocious and dangerous” surges when it arrives later this week.
Speaking following a meeting with the National Emergency Coordination Group, minister Murphy said its the general belief that the storm will hit Ireland on Thursday.
Although it is not yet known how strong winds will be, it is expected that the West and South coasts will bare the brunt of the storm.
The storm which is currently a hurricane in the Mid-atlantic is expected to move northwards towards Ireland in the coming days, however wind speeds are expected to reduce before it reaches Irish shores.
Met Éireann say they will issue further updates on later today, but the main concern at the moment is in costal regions as storm surges are expected to bring strong winds and swells.
