Minster for Justice issues stark warning to gangland criminals saying ‘nobody is above the law’

The Minister Frances Fitzgerald has issued a stark warning to the gangland criminals of Dublin by stating that ‘nobody is above the law’.

The Justice Minister further stated that she was “utterly determined” to support Gardaí in bringing the culprits to justice. Minister Fitzgerald told The Independent.ie that a number of Dublin communities have been victims of the recent inner city feud.

Ms Fitzgerald told the paper: “Criminals have to be brought to justice and I am utterly and totally committed to bringing criminals to justice, as is the Government. “Nobody is outside the justice system. Nobody is above the law. Nobody. We have shown that against The Provisionals, we’ve shown it in the past against organised crime, and we will show it again.”

“We must work with victims’ groups… We have to resource the Gardaí and I am and I will resource the Gardaí to deal with the gangland crime we are seeing at present. “There is no question but that the Gardaí are being, and will be, resourced.”

Ms Fitzgerald also highlighted the pain of the victims families, saying ‘ they have suffered so much’. “There are always victims (of these killings), there are individuals, there are families, there are communities. The criminal justice system hasn’t been sensitive enough to the needs of victims and it is changing fairly dramatically and it needs to change fairly dramatically.”
