Mixed reaction to taxpayer having to fund new LGBT+ inclusivity programme

There’s been a mixed reaction to the taxpayer having to fund a new LGBTI+ programme that’s being rolled out by the new government. Some say they’re happy to fund it while others say taxpaying money shouldn’t be used for such a programme.

Minister for Justice & Equality Helen McEntee and Minister for Children, Disability, Equality and Integration, Roderic O’Gorman are to announce that the taxpayer will be funding a new LGBTI+ inclusivity programme.

The fund, which is seeking applicants from around the country will be used to “protect rights and to improve the quality of life and wellbeing for the LGBTI+ community” RTE has reported.

Taxpayer’s money from the fund will be used to encourage members of the LGBT+ community to play a greater role in the economic, social and political life of the nation.

So far, €700,000 has been made available for the National LGBTI+ Inclusion Strategy and it is intended that this strategy will create a safe, fair and inclusive Ireland for people of all genders and sex characteristics.
