Many on social media believe that Eamonn Ryan disgraced himself in the Dail by falling asleep during an important voting session late last week.
The Minister had to be woken up by TD Jack Chambers so he could cast his vote on improving the wages and conditions of low income workers.
Showing his true colours, the Green Party leader voted no to the bill that would have seen the introduction of a standard living wage and more job security for Ireland’s working classes, including essential services workers that were highly praised during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The incident has understandably caused a backlash on social media, with users pointing out that if he were a minimum wage worker caught sleeping on the job he’d have gotten the sack.
As a Minister, Ryan is taking in just under 100 thousand euro a year in salary alongside a generous expenses allowance at the expense of the taxpayer. While claiming to want ‘anequitable, healthy and just society’ but judging by comments online, it is swiftly becoming clear to many social media users that the Greens are only interested in the perks of power.
