Mixed reactions to African migrant claiming he was persecuted for being homosexual in Africa is facing deportation after he fathered two children with Irish woman

There have been mixed reactions to an African migrant who claimed he was persecuted for being homosexual in Africa and got asylum here yet has fathered two children with an Irish woman and now faces deportation as a result.

While Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan has been fighting for his and his party’s political future ahead 2020’s General Election, he has also been fighting to deport an African asylum seeker who obtained refugee status by claiming to be homosexual but then fathered two children with an Irishwoman.

According to the Sun, the man, who is now believed to be Nigerian, claimed to be from another West African country with a culture extremely hostile to the LGBTQI+ community where his life was in danger from the family of another man with whom he was involved in a sexual relationship.

The Sun reports that Sarah Cooney, the Justice Minister’s junior counsel, these claims were “complete fabrication” and the government is “still in the dark as to who this person is”.

The man now claims he should be allowed to remain in Ireland for the sake of his two children, who are in their care of their Irish mother, who is now in relationship with another man.

In response Senior Council Robert Barron has said the man should be immediately deported as in his words “It’s of great importance that the immigration system isn’t made a mockery of. A false claim for asylum makes a complete mockery of the system.”
