There has been a very mixed reaction to the fact that PSNI Officers in full Police uniform marched in the Republic’s main Pride Parade accompanied by the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and the Garda Commissioner Drew Harris.

Varadkar was with various other Fine Gael TDs, including Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan, Minister for Justice Simon Harris, Minister for Housing Eoghan Murphy and Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe.

The Taoiseach was seen roaring laughing and even taking selfies with PSNI Officers who travelled down from the North to march in the parade in their full police uniform.

Varadkar also posed with members on An Gardai who were marching in the Pride parade for the first time in history.

The Garda Commissioner Drew Harris was obviously able to do some introductions given how he knows so many in the PSNI and is now the head of the gardai.

Many people felt that it was just a step too far for their liking as the PSNI have been accused of being very heavy handed on occasion with Catholics who object to the 12th of July parades in the North.

There has been a mixed reaction to the Pride parade flying on top of the GPO and at the Dail for the weekend.
