A swan attacked and killed a small dog at a Dublin park today.
The incident happened at Bushy Park in Terenure this morning.
It is understood that the dog, believed to be a Cocker Spaniel, jumped into the water and began swimming around, but got too close to a group of swans and cygnets. One of the swans immediately attacked the dog, which soon succumbed to the large bird.
Attacks such as this are quite rare, but do occur from time to time. The swan is thought to have acted in protection of the cygnets
