More of the same? Leo Varadkar and Micheal Martin agree to meet next week for “exploratory talks” to form a government

Regardless of what many people voted for, it could well be more of the same in the not too distant future, if Fianna Fail’s Micheal Martin has anything to do with it.

The leaders of Fianna Fail and Fine Gael, whom Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald aptly referred to as ‘Tweedledum and Tweedledee during a recent election debate, have agreed to meet for ‘exploratory’ talks next week.

It is understood that the leaders held a telephone call late on Thursday evening, the same evening that Varadkar resigned as Taoiseach.

The leaders might discuss the possibility of a ‘grand coalition’ during their upcoming meeting, despite the fact that outgoing Taoiseach Leo Varadkar insisted that his party was firmly heading into opposition.
