More than 18,000 Ukrainian pupils have enrolled in schools by the start of June

At the start of June, almost 18,000 Ukrainian students were registered in schools around Ireland, reports Independent.

According to the Department of Education, 18,133 Ukrainian students have been registered in classes this month.

Of that number, 6,846 students had enrolled in post-primary education, while 11,287 students had been assigned to elementary schools.

A Department spokesperson said: “This data indicates an enrolment rate of 93.1pc among Ukrainian children aged five to 18, who have come to Ireland. The Department wishes to thank school communities and stakeholders at a local and national level across Ireland for their engagement, collaboration and support in accommodating Ukrainian pupils in Irish primary and post-primary schools,” reports Independent.

The Regional Education and Language Teams (REALT) are providing assistance to families and Ukrainian students as they adjust to the Irish educational system.
