Most GPs refuse to sign up for new free care for kids plan

Figures show that only 2% of general practitioners have so far signed up to the proposed scheme of free medical care for children under six.

A new report just released also shows that only one in five GPs intend to register for the scheme before the deadline expires next Wednesday. This figure is well below the number required for the scheme to be viable and go ahead.

As originally planned, a minimum of 40% have to sign up to the €67million programme before it’s put in place.

The survey from which the data was extracted was sent to all GPs and responded to by 1,048 doctors.
