A young mother has shaken her baby to death after social workers allowed her to go home despite medical staff warning her not to care for the child.
Lauren Saint George, 25, has been found guilty of the infanticide of 10-week-old Lily-Mai George, who died from a serious head injury and also suffered 18 broken ribs, two broken legs and severe bruising.
Six days after bringing the baby home, she snapped and attacked his daughter when social workers told her she had to go to a dorm if she wanted to keep her.
The verdict means the jury ruled that she killed her daughter but was not fully responsible for her actions due to the effects of childbirth or breastfeeding. The jury acquitted her of murder, manslaughter and cruelty to the baby.
The judge adjourned Saint George’s sentencing until September 9 to allow the parole board to prepare a report.
