Mother Teresa will be made a saint on September 4, 2016.
The date, which falls on the eve of the 19th anniversary of her death, was chosen by Pope Francis.
Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity, an organization that at its height had 4,500 sisters working in 133 countries. They ran hospices for the sick and dying, soup kitchens, and many other facilities for the needy.
She passed away from multiple heart conditions on September 5 1997.
