Motorists advised to be careful this morning as national yellow warning for snow and ice remains in place

Last night was a ferociously cold night with temperatures dropping to -3c with widespread ice and snow falling in the west and northwest overnight.

Anyone who will be driving this morning has been advised to take extreme care while on the roads as black ice and snow has been forecast to potentially be lying on roads – in particular on B roads across the country.

The advice comes after Met Eireann issued ice and possibly snow weather warnings for for much of Leinster and Munster.

Met Éireann say the warning is in effect until at least 11am this morning.
