BREAKING: Motorists advised to take extreme care if driving overnight or early morning as snow is forecast and black ice is widespread

Anyone who will be driving overnight or in the early morning has been advised to take extreme care while on the roads as black ice and snow has been forecast to potentially be lying on roads – in particular on B roads across the country.

The advice comes after Met Eireann issued ice and possibly snow weather warnings for for much of Leinster and Munster.

Met Éireann say the warning is in effect until at least 11am on Sunday morning.

The national forecaster say frost and icy patches could occur on lower ground with snow to fall in the west and northern western counties.
