Extreme caution is advised tonight as Met Eireann have upgraded their weather warning for both land and see with multiple gale warnings.

Motorists especially are asked to take extra care on the roads as heavy rains and very strong winds are causing dangerous road conditions – particularly on motorways with crosswinds.

The national forecaster said:
We in store for a very “windy night with strong and gusty southwest winds, reaching gale force for a time over land and with strong gales along coasts. Rain will be heavy during the night and visibility will be poor, but it will be mostly cleared by morning, with showers following in to western coasts. High seas will bring a risk of coastal flooding along the west coast and there’ll be spot flooding on roads for a time. Temperatures will be unchanged for much of the night and will fall to their lowest with the clearance of the rain in the early morning, ranging 4 to 7 degrees north to south.”
