A ministers meeting that usually takes place pre-Cabinet on a Tuesday has been rescheduled for tonight, giving rise to speculation that the election date will be called tomorrow.
It is also understood that President Michael D Higgins has left free slots for Tuesday and Wednesday, another indication that something big is cooking.
To call an election, the Taoiseach must go to Áras an Uachtaráin to formally dissolve the Dáil.
Thursday, February 25 is the likely date for the election.
