Multiple casualties reported as deadly heatwave grips India with temperatures surpassing 50C




Indian authorities are on high alert as the country is currently by a heatwave that has seen temperatures reaching a staggering 50C.

The country which saw highs above 47C over the past three days is reportedly experiencing water shortages and multiple deaths have been reported due to the searing heat.

According to reports in India, the deadly heatwave has seen as many 17 people die in recent days, with the latest being farmer who is thought to have died as a result of heatstroke.

The deaths come as the city of Churu, saw temperatures surpass 50C for three consecutive days, with highest being recorded on Saturday as the thermometer reaching 50.6C.

The deadly heatwave which comes ahead of the expected monsoon season, has resulted in hospitals being put on standby and water supplies have been severely depleted in some regions.

Meanwhile forecasters say the heatwave which is mainly effecting the northern half of the country is expected to continue for the next three days at least.
