Music to their ears: Dublin Bus Drivers allowed to listento the radio again

After Dublin Bus drivers were banned from listening to radio while working, and even threatened to be let go if caught doing so, outrage sparked and a general rejection of the meassure was expressed. The drivers warned on the possibility of taking industrial action if the rule was enforced.

This afternoon, however, Dublin Bus has recanted its zero-tolerance policy, which included a comprehensive ban to all electronic devices, not only radios. Several drivers received notices of disciplinary action as a result from this short-live ban.

In an statement made to TheJournal.ie, Dublin Bus explained that, after meeting with union representatives, they confirmed the ban on electronic devices, with the exception of transistor radios.

“Dublin Bus management reinforced the importance of the Driver Safety Handbook and procedures which prohibit unsafe practices while driving,” a spokesperson for the company said.
