In unprecedented scenes in Jobstown, West Dublin today, the Tanaiste Joan Burton was trapped in her car by a baying crowd for over two and a half hours. This video shows the moment when Burton was rushed from the surrounded car, under intense police protection, into a waiting vehicle to escape the scene.
At one point, the Gardai almost lost control of the situation, and the woman voted ‘Woman of the year 2014’ would have had to fend for herself.
It’s difficult to see how any government can continue with this level of disenchantment from the general public.
