Gardaí has identified the location of a large gold stash that National Party leader Justin Barrett said was stolen, reports RTE.

They are happy that the gold bars, valued at an estimated €400,000, are in a safe place and can only be accessed in the right way.

They are also pleased to be notified of any move to withdraw or transfer the gold while their investigation into its origin and ownership continues.

Gardaí confirmed that they had received a complaint about the theft of gold from premises in Dublin, but did not determine that a crime had taken place and did not launch an investigation.

Mr Barrett, the leader of the National Party, which has no elected MPs or senators, claimed “a considerable quantity in gold” has been removed…”from the party’s safe vault in Dublin” and has gone missing.

Mr Barrett said gold “formed the main part of the party’s reserves in case of a mishap in general or more particularly a collapse in the value of fiat currency”, reports RTE.

A Fiat currency is money issued by the government.

The Garda are investigating to determine who was authorized to move or move the gold elsewhere.

The investigation is conducted by the regional intelligence.

In a statement Garda Headquarters said: “An Garda Síochána does not comment on third party statements or on named individuals. An Garda Síochána is carrying out enquiries into an allegation of theft from a premises in Dublin 4,” reports RTE.
