The nephew of Thomas O’Halloran has described him as “always caring” and “always giving” in the wake of the killing of the 87-year-old in a violent attack in west London.

According to RTE, Sky News and the Daily Mail, Thomas O’Halloran Jnr said that the family feel “complete numbness” with the death of his uncle.  He said that it was “horrendous, absolutely terrifying that something like this could happen to such a gentle, kind person.”

Mr O’Halloran, who was originally from Ennistymon in County Clare, was well known for busking to raise money for charity.  His nephew said that the violent attack had shocked the family and that it was unbearable to think about.

The pensioner’s younger brother George also spoke to the Daily Mail, speaking about how he and his brother were brought up in a family where music was loved and that his brother was a very kind person.

President Michael D. Higgins has expressed his “profound sympathy” to the O’Halloran family.

Police in the UK tracked down a man who has been charged with Mr. O’Halloran’s murder and Lee Byer was remanded in custody after appearing in Court on Friday.
