Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to continue Israel’s conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon, shattering expectations that the murder of Hamas commander Yahya Sinwar would contribute to the cessation of the Middle East’s increasing conflict after more than a year, reports RTE.
In the meantime, the Lebanese terrorist organisation Hezbollah promised to intensify its conflict with Israel, and Iran, which supports it, stated that “the spirit of resistance” will be bolstered by the passing of its ally Sinwar in Gaza.
The chief negotiator and deputy leader of Gaza Hamas, Khalil al-Hayya, has verified that Sinwar was killed in action, reports RTE.
Al-Hayya added, “We mourn the great leader, the martyred brother, Yahya Sinwar, Abu Ibrahim,” in a statement that was captured on film and aired by Al Jazeera.
According to Hayya’s statement, Hamas would not free the prisoners until the Gaza conflict is over.

According to the top Hamas official, the hostages “will not return… unless the aggression against our people in Gaza stops,” reports RTE.
He demanded that Israel leave Gaza and free Palestinian detainees detained in Israeli prisons.
A key moment in the year-long struggle occurred Wednesday when Israeli forces murdered Yahya Sinwar, the architect of the strike that started the Gaza war on October 7, 2023, during an operation in the Palestinian territory.
Although he pledged to continue the battle, which in recent weeks has shifted from battling against the Palestinian organisation Hamas in Gaza to an invasion of southern Lebanon, Mr. Netanyahu dubbed yesterday’s assassination of Yahya Sinwar a milestone, reports RTE.
Mr. Netanyahu told Israelis, “The war, my dear ones, is not yet over,” and that combat will go on until the release of the captives that Hamas is holding.
In reference to Iran and its terrorist supporters in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Yemen, he said, “We have before us a great opportunity to stop the axis of evil and create a different future,” reports RTE.
Yahya Sinwar’s murder, according to Mr. Netanyahu, marks the “beginning of the end” of the conflict in Gaza.
“Yahya Sinwar has passed away. near an English-language video message sent by his office, Mr. Netanyahu stated, “The valiant soldiers of the Israel Defence Forces killed him in Rafah,” reports RTE.
