New champion on the horizon: UFC chief officially confirms Conor Mcgregor will be stripped of his lightweight title in April

It has been officially confirmed that Conor McGregor will no longer be UFC Lightweight champion this coming April after the UFC chief Dana White announced that the winner of the upcoming contest between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov will named as the new UFC lightweight champion.

In what will most likely come as a blow to McGregor, White who has seemingly grown inpatient with the Dubliner, confirmed the news during a press conference for this weekend’s UFC 220.

During the press conference White said the following:”I have no update.” “The winner of this fight will be the champion.”

The news which was expected by many will now see McGregor who hasn’t fought in the octagon since he won the title back in November 2016, being removed as champion on April 8th.

Although ‘The Notorious’ has yet to comment on the decision, it seems the move will bring the Irishman’s future in the sport into further question as previous rumours have suggested McGregor may be done fighting inside the octagon.
