New Covid-19 fine system reportedly set to come into force later this week

A new fines system for breaching Covid-19 guidelines is expected to be brought in later this week.

According to The Irish Times, the new laws which were agreed upon last month are expected to be enforced later this week with the Departments of Health and Justice expected to finalise draft proposals in the coming days.

It is understood the new fines system is being introduced in effort to halt the spread of the virus.

The Irish Times reports that people could face fines of up to €1,000 for hosting house parties and there will also fines of between €60 and €100 for people who exceed the 5km travel limit for non essential travel.

It is reported that people will face similar fines for not wearing face coverings in public places such as shops and retail outlets.
