New figures published today has shown that were 6,666 abortions carried out in Ireland in 2019.
According to the figures which were released under the Annual Report of the Health (Regulation of Termination of Pregnancy) Act 2018, the vast majority of terminations were carried out in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
The figures which account for all of 2019 show that were 6,542 (98.1%) abortions carried out within the first 12 weeks.
They also show that a further 100 terminations were carried out when it was considered that there was a threat to the life of the unborn child.
Meanwhile a further 24 terminations were carried out in cases were there was a threat to the life of the woman.
