New government claims policies will include reduced childcare costs and more gardaĆ

Ireland’s draft government plan calls for a number of initiatives, including smaller class sizes, lower childcare costs, additional gardaĆ, a proposed ban on marketing energy drinks to youngsters, and stricter regulations on who may apply dermal fillers, reports Breaking News.

As Fianna FĆ”il and Fine Gael met as parliamentary parties to approve the 162-page agreement, it was released on Wednesday. The document’s whole text is available here: Programme for Government 2025.

The “aim” to lower the general student-teacher ratio at the primary level to 19:1 during the government’s tenure is one of its policies, as is the establishment of a new public transit security unit with authority akin to that of the current airport police, reports Breaking News.

The draft statement included promises on “a focus on reform at the heart of all Government” and the creation of a new institution for “future planning.”

It said that the reform program will be connected to a new public sector wage agreement.

Additionally, the Department of Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform, and Digitalisation will be renamed, with a new Infrastructure Division, reports Breaking News.

In terms of housing, the program contains a commitment to increase construction capacity in order to reach the revised goal of building over 300,000 new dwellings by the end of 2030.

In order to bring in more land for residential construction, the government will also pass a new Compulsory Purchase Order Bill.

Additionally, a land price register and a rent price register would be established, reports Breaking News.

In other health-related measures, the government says it would look at limiting the sale of energy drinks with high caffeine content, such as “a ban on their sale to children,” and making sure that only qualified medical professionals administer dermal fillers.

Additionally, it promises to maintain cheap and reasonable tariffs and implement contactless fare payments on all public transit, reports Breaking News.

The government indicated it will “explore” the creation of a managed savings account for babies with an initial one-time payment by the State, ensuring lower income families benefit most from its beginning. This is a reference to Simon Harris’ planned acorn savings program for infants.

Additionally, it intends to provide paid leave for surrogates, reports Breaking News.

A commitment to provide transgender healthcare services that are “based on clinical evidence, respect, inclusiveness, and compassion” is part of the proposed plan.

Additionally, it has committed to hiring at least 5,000 extra gardai over the next five years, creating 9,000 new employment in international financial services by 2030, and implementing a new Disability Strategy with more personnel and shorter waiting lists.

A “health-led” approach to drug addiction is another commitment made in the draft program, reports Breaking News.
